Funkology

If you want the hottest professional function band on the London circuit, playing classic funk, soul and disco tunes to keep you grooving all night long, then you've come to the right place!

Funkology is an excellent wedding and corporate function band with a huge 9-piece sound that is second-to-none! The band has an outstanding pedigree, with members coming from West End Shows, The Guildhall School of Music or The National Youth Jazz Orchestra, ensuring live music of the highest quality!

A night of grooving with Funkology would usually be ignited by the legendary soul classics from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and James Brown. The evening would continue to burn with the hard-hitting funk of Stevie Wonder, Tower Of Power and Jamiroquai, with a final explosion of disco beats from Chic, The Jacksons and Earth, Wind & Fire, to name but a few.

Funkology has extensive experience of the professional music scene and is available for bookings at any type of public or private event or function.

A night of grooving with Funkology would usually be ignited by the legendary soul classics from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and James Brown. The evening would continue to burn with the hard-hitting funk of Stevie Wonder, Tower Of Power and Jamiroquai, with a final explosion of disco beats from Chic, The Jacksons and Earth, Wind & Fire, to name but a few.

The band's total song list stands at well over 100 songs, and a normal 2-hour performance will include around 30 of these, tailored to your occasion. We will always attempt to accommodate any requests from our repertoire list to make the set list as personalised as possible. The band will also learn a first or last dance request for each booking if at least 6 weeks notice is given.

Funkology has extensive experience of the professional music scene and has performed at every type of event imaginable since it's formation. Corporate events, weddings, Jewish weddings, parties, university balls, jazz clubs, public venues - you name it and we have played it!

The band is available for hire at any type of public or private event and usually has bookings over 1 year in advance. It is therefore advised to contact us as soon as possible to check availability and prices, in order to avoid disappointment.

A complete evening from FUNKology will always include the following components:

FULL 9-piece band (other line-up options also available on request)
2 x 1 hour sets (funk, soul, disco, pop, rock, jazz)
First / last dance request (at least 6 weeks notice needed)
Requests taken from current repertoire list
Interval disco music (played via dedicated laptop computer)
Full PA system & band lighting (suitable for most small / medium sized venues)
Local travel expenses (within 50 miles)
Performance times between 19:30 and 00:00 (arrival time 18:00)
Full entertainment contract giving complete piece of mind

Funkology at Weddings:

Your wedding will probably be the biggest and most important event of your life, so it demands entertainment of the highest quality, organised to perfection. Funkology specialises in providing personaly tailored wedding packages to cover each stage of your day, from the ceremony to the reception party, saving you valuable time, stress and most importantly money. Due to the immense talent in the band, we can provide a classical or jazz ensemble to create the perfect mood whenever you need it.

An example itineray covering each stage of a traditional wedding would be:

Ceremony - Brass fanfare / Jazz duo (vocal & guitar/piano) / String quartet
Drinks Reception - Jazz duo / String quartet
Dinner - Jazz duo / Jazz ensemble (2 - 7 players, with / without vocals)
Party - Full 9-piece band (7 and 8-piece options. Jazz / swing can also be played during this stage)

Each stage of the day will be tailored to your exact requirements, with song requests, timings, dress code and prices to fit with your plans. A complete wedding package organised by Funkology will work out to be much cheaper than to hire individual groups of musicians, as you will only need to pay one lot of travel expenses and equipment hire. It always makes more sense to make full use of the musicians that you have there, rather than get more in, especially when you have experienced professionals.

Other requirements:

Funkology can also provide additional services to tailor your event to your exact specifications. This can include any size of jazz ensemble for background/dinner jazz right up to a full swing band for the perfect glitzy occasion.

Jazz Options

In addition to Funkology's main party/function band, we can also offer the option of a top quality jazz ensemble or swing band to make your event one to remember. If a jazz ensemble is booked in conjunction with the main band, we will personally tailor a specific package to cater for all your musical needs. A LARGE discount is available if the jazz ensemble is booked WITH the main band.

Jazz Ensemble

The line-up of a jazz ensemble for background and/or dinner jazz can be varied greatly, with most combinations of instruments possible. From experience, however, the combinations that work best are:

Solo - Guitar OR Piano
Duo - Vocals + Guitar (audio) OR Piano
Trio - Bass & Drums + Guitar OR Piano
Quartet - Bass & Drums + Guitar OR Piano + Vocals OR Horn (usually Sax)
Quintet - Bass & Drums & Guitar & Piano + Vocals OR Horn (usually Sax) (audio)

Swing Band

The full 9-piece band can be booked to play a selection of classic swing and dance tunes to give your event a touch of glitz and panache. Full arrangements with 2 vocalists and 3 horns give that 'big band' feel to get the nostalgia flowing and those feet tapping! The jazz/swing set is usually played as set 1 followed by a set of soul, disco and funk to create the perfect evening that your guests will not forget!
